When the Anderton Boat Lift was converted to electric power (re-opened 1908) the French company Citroen Gear's were commisisioned to design & supply 'Anti-Slip' cog gear.
Citroën built armaments for France during World War 1 and after the war they had a factory and no product. So, in 1919, they started to produce automobiles. Their logo came from the cog gear used on the Anderton Boat LIft.
