Riversdale Swing Bridge - Northwich

To allow floating plant to undertake the works the Hunts Lock sluice approach will be closed for the duration of the works. This does not affect navigation along the main line of the Weaver Navigation.


Work Progress To-Date

Monday 12th April - (Start Date):   2 representatives from the council's contractor's carried out a site survey to ascertain the best positioning of the workers portable toilet facility.

Friday 16th April:   3 representatives of the council's contractor's carried out a site survey to ascertain the best positioning of of the contractor's 'Name Sign'. It was decided to put the sign on the bridge itself. (Yes....the very bridge that they are about to demolish!).

Tuesday 20th April:   Sign erected

Friday 23rd April:   Sign de-erected (removed) - Due to complaints from a neighbouring house on the opposite bank.

The 'Piling Contractors' have now made arrangements to use a compound adjacent to Hartford Blue Bridge to assemble their pontoon and their crane will be floated downstream to commence piling on Tuesday 4th May.

Monday 17th May:    Crane floated downstream to remove old bridge and start piling work for the new bridge foundations.

Friday 11th June:     Piling completed. Foundation and other preparation works commenced.

Friday 16th July:       Contractors 'Barhale' comenced the 'concrete pour' for the bridge fountations.

The new bridge is being fabricated offsite and will be transported down the navigation in 3 seperate pieces sometime towards the end of September.
